Meaning of Andropause

what is andropause:

Is known as andropause or male menopause, the set of physiological changes that characterize the reduction of male sexual activity. This term was coined by Drs. Heller and Myer, in 1944.

Changes in the male reproductive system appear to be gradual and progressive, mainly on the reduction of levels of testosterones in blood, hormone responsible for controlling sexual desire, erection, sperm production, and the strength of the muscles.

Male andropause is common after 40 years, although some men may enter at this stage earlier, and in this case, is what is known as early andropause. The diagnosis of andropause is done through a blood test, which is evaluated levels of testosterone, and analysis of the symptoms presented by the man.

Finally, some authors consider that male menopause is a crisis of the 40 triggered by emotional way, while others believe that it is a physical disorder that results from changes in hormone levels, and, in particular, testosterone.

Etymologically, the word andropause is of Greek origin, formed by the following words “andros” meaning “man” and “pausia” to express “stop, pause”, and the suffix “IA” which means “quality”.

Early andropause

Early andropause occurs at an early age, presenting the same symptoms of andropause in its normal process. With regard to early andropause, the same treatment is indicated hormone replacement tablets and injections, prescription by the endocrine or urologist.

Symptoms of andropause

Andropause not only causes a reduction in the levels of testosterones, but also other symptoms like:

Absence of erections spontaneous. Increase in body fat. Ansiedad.cansancio.disminucion of muscle mass. Decrease of body hairs. Decrease in sexual desire. Difficulty of concentration. Lack of appetite. Depresion.irritabilidad.sudores.palpitaciones.

Also, there are studies showing that andropause can lead to other health problems, such as: heart disease, and osteoporosis.

Treatment of andropause

Is noteworthy that andropause is a normal stage of aging of man, and it can be controlled through the replacement of testosterone through tablets or injections, prescribed by the endocrinologist or a urologist.

Now with respect to the foregoing hormonal replacement is contraindicated to men suffering from prostate cancer, breast, or has family members who suffered these illnesses.

Also, there is a natural treatment for andropause as tea of Tribulus terrestris extract tablets of that plant, to increase sexual potency or terrestrial, and testosterone levels. Is not recommended for men suffering from heart problems and high pressure.

On the other hand, it is important to have a healthy lifestyle, under a healthy, practical power of physical exercise, sleep well, and maintain an active sexual life that allows to delay the appearance of testosterone deficiency and its symptoms.

Andropause and menopause

Andropause is common between ages 40 – 55 years, at the same time the menopause occurs in women between the ages of 45 – 55 years. Men may perceive female menopause-like symptoms. Differently from women, men do not have a specific interruption of menstruation symptom, such as with the female sex.

Now both processes are characterized by a decrease in hormone levels. In the case of the man, as it was said repeated times in the testosterone, meanwhile in women is estrogen levels decrease.

On the other hand, changes in men occurs gradually and can be accompanied by other symptoms as they were identified above, such as: fatigue, loss of energy, changes in attitudes and humor, among others.
