Meaning of Ethics

what is ethics:

As ethics is referred to as the science which deals with the set of duties and ethical principles that pertain to each profession, trade or workplace. The word, as such, is a neologism coined by the English philosopher Jeremy Bentham from the Greek word δέον, δέοντος (deon, deontos), which means ‘duty’, and the suffix – logia, described ‘Treaty’ or ‘science’.

Ethics sets the rules governing the conduct and performance in the professional sphere, according to professional which requires certain responsibilities in respect of the acts linked to their workforce. As such, it is a science applied to the moral field, which focuses on all those behaviors and performances which are not referred to either in the right or subject to the control of public law.

Professional associations are, in this sense, the entities responsible of fix, maintain, promote and defend the codes of ethics, as well as monitor its correct implementation and require certain levels of competition and quality to their assigned in the performance of their duties.

Medical ethics

In medicine, the code of ethics consists of the set of rules governing the conduct and performance of health care professionals. It relies, primarily, in the Hippocratic oath and the principles of Justice, beneficence and autonomy. Among other things, the medical ethics deals with aspects of the profession as the doctor-patient relationship and the importance of professional secrecy, as well as the limits of medical research and genetic manipulation, etc.

Legal deontology

Legal ethics is that which comprises the set of duties and obligations of ethical and legal type which should govern proceeding, conduct and performance of the professionals of the area of law. As such, the legal ethics affects all those professionals involved in the legal field, as lawyers, magistrates and judges, among others.

Journalistic ethics

As journalistic ethics is called the set of duties that journalists have in the exercise of their profession. As such, it is based on two fundamental principles, such as social responsibility and the information veracity. Failure to comply with the code of ethics involves punishments and penalties for professional medium where he, as well as the collegiate body in which it is registered.
