As symmetry is called the exact correspondence which is verified in the shape, size and position of the parts of an object considered as a whole. The word comes from the latin symmetrĭa, and this in turn from the Greek συμμετρία (symmetria).
Symmetry, as such, is a concept related to different disciplines as geometry, drawing, graphic design, architecture and other arts. Can also be found sciences such as biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics.
Symmetry in geometry
In geometry, it is called symmetry to the exact correspondence which is recorded in the available regular parties or points that make up a body or figure, considered in relation to a Center, axis or plane. Thus, different types of simetria:
spherical symmetry are verified: is one that takes place under any kind of rotation. Axial symmetry (also called cylindrical, radial or rotational): is one that occurs from an axis, which means that any money produced from that axis does not lead to any change of position in space. Reflective symmetry or speculate: is that defined by the existence of a single plane where one half is a reflection of the other. Translation symmetry or translational: it is that which occurs in an object or figure when this is repeated at a distance always identical shaft and along a line that can be placed in any position and which can be infinite.
Symmetry in biology
In biology, as symmetry is called the correspondence which is recognized in the body of an animal or plant, taking as a point of reference center, axis or plane, in relation to which bodies or equivalent parts are neatly arranged. Most multicellular organisms possess bodies where recognized some form of symmetry, which, as such, can manifest in two forma:
radial symmetry: is the one presenting the agencies whose bodies can be divided by two or more planes. This type of organism has similar parts arranged around a common central axis, as, for example, sea urchins or starfish. Bilateral symmetry: the own organizations that can be divided into two equal halves, so that both halves are equal as human beings or dogs images.
Symmetry and asymmetry
Asymmetry is the opposite of symmetry. As such, we can define it as the lack of correspondence or balance between the shape, size and position of the parts of a whole. Thus, the asymmetry manifests itself as the lack of equivalence between the traits that make up the appearance of an object or figure.
